Flameproof Level Switches & Transmitters
Flameproof point level switches and continuous level transmitters from Trumen for hazardous areas.
Flameproof level switches and transmitters cover tanks and silos holding solvents, fuels, chemicals or combustible powders in hazardous areas. Trumen supplies most of its level range in flameproof HAX aluminium enclosures for gas groups IIA, IIB and IIC, Ex d T6 IIC, for Zone 1 and 2 gas and Zone 21 and 22 dust atmospheres.

Flameproof Level Switches & Transmitters Guide
How flameproof level instruments work
Point level switches (vibrating fork, rotating paddle, admittance, capacitance, conductivity or magnetic float) detect material at one height and switch a contact; continuous transmitters (radar, guided wave radar, ultrasonic, capacitance or hydrostatic) track the level across a range. In the flameproof versions, the electronics and switch contacts sit inside an aluminium HAX enclosure built to IS/IEC 60079-1, so any internal fault is contained rather than reaching the tank atmosphere.
How to choose a flameproof level instrument
- Job: point level switch for a single alarm or trip point; continuous transmitter for a running level reading and trend.
- Medium: vibrating fork and rotating paddle switches suit solids and viscous liquids; conductivity switches need a conductive liquid; capacitance and admittance work across solids and liquids.
- Continuous technology: the 26 GHz radar transmitter is available Ex ia IIC T6 Ga (intrinsically safe); guided wave radar, ultrasonic, capacitance and hydrostatic transmitters cover other tank and range requirements.
- Zone and gas group: confirm the zone (1, 2, 21 or 22), gas group (IIA, IIB or IIC) and temperature class, since HAX enclosures cover all three gas groups but the switch or sensor inside must also match.

FAQ
Common questions
Which gas groups do the flameproof level instruments cover?
Trumen's HAX flameproof enclosures cover gas groups IIA, IIB and IIC, rated Ex d T6 IIC to IS/IEC 60079-1. That means the same enclosure design suits a wide range of flammable gases, from the least reactive group IIA up to the more demanding IIC group that includes hydrogen.
Are the flameproof level switches suitable for dust zones as well as gas?
Yes, selected models are suitable for dust Zones 21 and 22 as well as gas Zones 1 and 2. Confirm the specific instrument and zone combination you need, since not every point level or continuous model carries both gas and dust ratings.
Is the radar level transmitter intrinsically safe?
The 26 GHz radar transmitter is available as Ex ia IIC T6 Ga, an intrinsically safe rating that limits circuit energy rather than containing an explosion in an enclosure. This suits installations where a lighter, intrinsically safe loop is preferred over a flameproof housing.
What's the difference between a point level switch and a continuous transmitter?
A point level switch, such as a vibrating fork or rotating paddle type, gives a single on/off signal at one height, useful for high or low alarms. A continuous transmitter, such as radar or hydrostatic, tracks the level across the full range of the vessel for display, trending and control.
Which switch technology suits sticky or coating solids?
Vibrating fork and vibrating rod switches keep working reasonably well with light coating, since the fork's resonant frequency change is what triggers the switch. For heavily sticky or bridging materials, a rotating paddle switch, which physically stalls against the material, is often more reliable.
