Water Leakage Sensors and Detectors
Produal water leakage sensors and alarm relays that detect water on floors, under pipes and in plant rooms before it causes damage.
A water leakage sensor raises an alarm as soon as water reaches the floor or a pipe, so a burst hose, a leaking valve or a dripping chiller line is found in minutes instead of after the damage is done. We supply Produal resistive leakage sensors and the LPH 10 detector that reads them and switches a relay, a buzzer and an indicator light for your BMS or local alarm.

Water Leakage Sensors and Detectors Guide
How the system works
- Sensor (VVN or VVA 3): a passive element of about 300 kΩ when dry. Water on the sensing surface lowers its resistance.
- Detector (LPH 10): monitors the sensor resistance. Below about 10 kΩ it switches its potential-free relay, sounds the buzzer and turns the red light bright. Up to five sensors can be wired in parallel to one LPH 10.
Which sensor to choose
- VVN ribbon sensor: a 1 m or 2 m cotton ribbon that covers a long strip of floor or the side of a pipe. Use it along walls, under pipe runs and for condensation on chilled-water lines.
- VVA 3 flat sensor: a 174 x 25 mm sensor fixed with adhesive tape on the floor. Use it at a single point such as under a tank, pump, AHU drain pan or server rack. VVA sensors also detect glycol mixtures up to 50%.
Where leakage detection is used
- Data centres, server and UPS rooms
- Plant rooms, chiller and pump rooms, AHU and FCU drain pans
- Shafts and false floors under water and drain pipes
- Hospitals, museums, archives and warehouses with water-sensitive stock
FAQ
Common questions
Do I need a detector as well as a sensor?
Yes. VVN and VVA sensors are passive resistive elements with no output of their own. They are wired to an LPH 10 water leakage detector, which gives the relay output, buzzer and indicator light.
How many sensors can one LPH 10 monitor?
Up to five VVN or VVA sensors can be connected in parallel to one LPH 10, for example to cover several points in the same room with one alarm.
Can the LPH 10 alarm be sent to a BMS?
Yes. The LPH 10 has a potential-free change-over relay rated 24 Vac/dc, 0.3 A, which can be wired to a digital input of a BMS, PLC or alarm panel.
Can the sensors detect glycol leaks?
VVA sensors detect water and glycol mixtures up to 50%. Clean the sensor with a cloth and mild detergent after glycol contact. VVN ribbon sensors are for water only.
How should a VVN sensor be fitted on a pipe?
Attach it along the side of the pipe with cable ties or tape, not wrapped around it. Water condenses on the underside of a pipe, so a ribbon wrapped around the pipe would stay wet and collect dirt.
