Water Level Transmitter Beck 981

Continuous water level measurement for tanks, wells and reservoirs with the Beck 981.

View Products

A water level transmitter gives a continuous reading of exactly how full a tank, well or reservoir is, not just whether it's high or low, so pumps can be controlled smoothly and operators can see how much water is available. The Beck 981 measures the water column's pressure relative to atmosphere, up to 600 mbar, about 6 m of water.

Water Level Transmitter Beck 981 Guide

How the Beck 981 water level transmitter works

The transmitter's diaphragm sits in contact with the water and senses the pressure of the column above it, relative to atmospheric pressure. Because that pressure rises in direct proportion to depth, the transmitter converts it into a continuous 4 to 20 mA or 0 to 10 V signal that a PLC, controller or display can read at any time, rather than only at one trip point.

How to choose a water level transmitter

  • Range: the Beck 981 covers 0 to 600 mbar, about 6 m of water; confirm your tank or well depth fits within this before ordering.
  • Output: 4 to 20 mA on a 2-wire connection, or 0 to 10 V on a 3-wire connection, to suit your PLC or display input.
  • Protection: IP65, for outdoor or wet installations.
  • Media temperature: 0 to 85 °C, which covers ambient water storage and most utility applications.
  • Job: choose a transmitter over a switch whenever you need to see the volume, trend usage or control pumps in proportion to level, not just a single alarm point.

For a simple high or low alarm instead of a continuous reading, see the water level switch. For water tanks in buildings, see the HVAC water level transmitter.

FAQ

Common questions

Should I use a level transmitter or a level switch for a water tank?

Use a transmitter when you need to see the water volume continuously or control a pump in proportion to level; use a switch when you only need an alarm or a simple start/stop point. A transmitter like the Beck 981 gives the actual level at all times, while a switch only tells you when one point is crossed.

What output does the Beck 981 water level transmitter give?

4 to 20 mA on a 2-wire connection, or 0 to 10 V on a 3-wire connection, so it can feed most PLC analogue inputs, panel meters or building management systems directly without extra signal conversion.

What is the measuring range of the Beck 981?

Up to 0 to 600 mbar, which corresponds to about 6 m of water column. That covers most overhead tanks, sumps, wells and reservoirs at typical installation depths. Tell us your maximum water depth and we'll confirm the transmitter fits.

What details do you need for a water level transmitter quote?

The tank, well or reservoir depth, whether the water is fresh, chemically treated or otherwise, and the output signal your controller or display needs (4 to 20 mA or 0 to 10 V). That's enough for us to confirm the Beck 981 is the right fit.
