ATEX Pressure Switch Beck 901 Ex
Beck 901 Ex pressure switches for hazardous areas, available factory-set or adjustable.
An ATEX pressure switch protects pumps, compressors and processes in hazardous areas, certified for the zone. The Beck 901 Ex monitors overpressure, vacuum or differential pressure of liquids and gases, including aggressive media, in Ex zones 1, 2, 21 and 22, factory-set from -900 mbar to 12 bar or Prescal® adjustable from -700 mbar to 12 bar.

ATEX Pressure Switch Beck 901 Ex Guide
How an ATEX pressure switch works
Inside the switch, a spring-loaded diaphragm moves with process pressure and operates the contact at the set point. When the pressure force overcomes the spring, the diaphragm moves and operates the switch contact; when pressure falls back, the contact resets. The 901 Ex uses the same mechanism as the standard 901, but its housing and switch are built and certified so they can't become an ignition source in Ex zones 1, 2, 21 and 22.
How to choose an ATEX pressure switch
- Setting: the 901 Ex Prescal® adjustable version sets the trip point on a scaled knob on site, without a pressure gauge; the 901 Ex factory-set version is set by the manufacturer so it can't change on site.
- Range: factory-set covers -900 mbar to 12 bar; Prescal® adjustable covers -700 mbar to 12 bar.
- Medium: both handle liquids and gases, including aggressive media, with housing materials chosen to suit the medium.
- Temperature and protection: ambient and media temperature -20 to +85 °C, IP54 or IP65 depending on the protection cap fitted.
Typical uses
- Applications: pump and compressor protection in chemical and pharma plants, solvent and paint systems, and gas or vacuum lines in hazardous areas.
- Non-hazardous areas: see Pressure Switches.
FAQ
Common questions
Which zones are the Beck 901 Ex switches approved for?
Ex zones 1 and 2 for gas, and 21 and 22 for dust. That covers both continuous and occasional risk classifications for gas and dust atmospheres, so both factory-set and Prescal® adjustable versions carry the same zone coverage.
Should I choose the adjustable or the factory-set ATEX pressure switch?
Choose the Prescal® adjustable version if the set point may need to change, since it's set on a scaled knob without a pressure gauge. Choose factory-set if the trip point must stay fixed, for example on OEM machines or safety trips in a hazardous area.
Can the ATEX pressure switch handle aggressive media?
Yes, with a suitable housing material to match the medium. Tell us the liquid or gas involved, including any aggressive or corrosive properties, and we'll confirm the correct housing and diaphragm combination for the 901 Ex.
What is the pressure range of the ATEX 901 Ex?
The factory-set version covers -900 mbar to 12 bar, and the Prescal® adjustable version covers -700 mbar to 12 bar. Both also handle differential pressure applications, and ambient and media temperature run from -20 to +85 °C.
How does the ATEX 901 Ex differ from the standard Beck 901?
The switching mechanism is the same diaphragm-and-spring design, but the 901 Ex housing and contact are built and certified for Ex zones 1, 2, 21 and 22, so it can be installed where flammable gas or combustible dust may be present.
