Beck 901 Pressure Switches

Beck 901 pressure switches for liquids and gases, including aggressive media, with UL-approved and ATEX versions.

View Products

A pressure switch opens or closes an electrical contact when pressure crosses a set point, with no power supply or signal processing needed. The Beck 901 series handles liquids and gases, including aggressive media, from 5 mbar to 12 bar and down to -900 mbar vacuum, in adjustable Prescal® and fixed factory-set models, with UL-approved and ATEX versions.

Beck 901 Pressure Switches Guide

How a pressure switch works

Process pressure acts on a diaphragm held back by a spring, and when the pressure force overcomes the spring, the diaphragm moves and operates the switch contact, resetting when pressure falls back. The gap between the trip and reset pressures is the switching differential, or hysteresis. It stops the contact chattering when pressure hovers around the set point.

How to choose a pressure switch

  • Setting: Prescal® models have a scaled knob, so you set the trip point on site without a pressure gauge. Factory-set models arrive set to your value, within ±10%, which suits OEM machines and fixed trips.
  • Range: pick the model that puts your set point mid-range. Overpressure models cover 5 mbar to 12 bar, vacuum models reach -700 mbar (adjustable) or -900 mbar (factory-set), and the 901.8x differential models cover 5 to 50 mbar.
  • Medium and temperature: diaphragms come in NBR, silicone, FKM (Viton®) or EPDM, and connections in PA, PPS, PVDF, brass or stainless steel. Media can reach 85 °C, or 130 °C with a metal or PPS connection.
  • Electrical load: the standard contact switches up to 10 (2) A at 250 VAC. The low-voltage version, rated 100 mA at 24 VAC, suits PLC inputs.
  • Pulsation and enclosure: 0.3, 0.5 or 0.8 mm restrictors damp pulses from pumps and compressors. Protection is IP44, IP54 or IP65, depending on the cap.
  • Approvals: UL versions conform to ANSI/UL 508 and CSA C22.2 No. 14. ATEX versions are for Ex zones 1, 2, 21 and 22.

FAQ

Common questions

What is the difference between a pressure switch and a pressure transmitter?

A pressure switch gives an on/off contact at one set point. A pressure transmitter gives a continuous 4 to 20 mA or 0 to 10 V signal proportional to pressure, so a PLC can display, trend and control it. Use a switch for protection and alarms, and a transmitter when you need the actual value.

What is switching differential on a pressure switch?

It's the difference between the pressure at which the switch trips and the pressure at which it resets. A small differential gives a precise alarm. A larger one stops a pump or compressor starting and stopping too often. On the adjustable Beck 901 it depends on the model, from 3 mbar on the 5 to 20 mbar range to 0.5 to 2 bar on the 12 bar models.

Should I choose an adjustable Prescal® or a factory-set Beck 901?

Choose Prescal® if the set point may change or you want to set it on site. The scaled knob sets it without a pressure gauge. Choose factory-set if the set point is fixed, for example on OEM machines or safety trips. Beck sets it to your value within ±10%, so every switch in a batch behaves the same.

Can the Beck 901 handle hot or aggressive media?

Yes, when the materials match the medium. Choose the diaphragm (NBR, silicone, FKM or EPDM) and the connection (PA, PPS, PVDF, brass or stainless steel) for your liquid or gas. Media can reach 85 °C as standard, or 130 °C with a metal or PPS connection. Tell us the medium and we'll confirm the combination.

Can a pressure switch monitor vacuum or differential pressure?

Yes. The adjustable 901 vacuum models switch between -5 and -700 mbar, and factory-set models go down to -900 mbar. The 901.8x differential models switch between 5 and 50 mbar, for example across a filter or a fan. For HVAC air and water systems, see our HVAC differential pressure switches.

Which Beck 901 version do I need for a hazardous area or export machine?

For hazardous areas, choose the ATEX 901 Ex, adjustable or factory-set, for Ex zones 1, 2, 21 and 22, which cover both gas and dust atmospheres. For machines built for North American markets, choose the UL-approved 901, which conforms to ANSI/UL 508 and CSA C22.2 No. 14.
