Flameproof Airflow & Velocity Transmitters
Measure air flow and velocity in hazardous areas with flameproof transmitters and probes.
Flameproof airflow and velocity transmitters measure air flow, velocity or differential pressure in dust collector and ID fan ducts handling combustible dust or gas, in enclosures certified for the hazardous area. The range covers the Beck 985VA (0 to 30 m/s, FLP-JB-IIC), Produal DPT-Flow, and Höntzsch TA10C thermal and ZS25 ZG5 Ex-d vane wheel probes.

Flameproof Airflow & Velocity Transmitters Guide
How a flameproof airflow and velocity transmitter works
A thermal, vane wheel or differential-pressure sensing element in the duct reads air velocity or flow, and the transmitter converts it to a 4 to 20 mA or 0 to 10 V signal. In a flameproof design, the electronics sit inside an enclosure built to contain any internal explosion, so the sensor can be installed in the same duct as the combustible dust or gas it's monitoring without becoming an ignition source itself.
How to choose a flameproof airflow and velocity transmitter
- Range and accuracy: the Beck 985VA covers 0 to 30 m/s with an LED display; the Produal DPT-Flow measures volume flow, velocity or differential pressure to ±1% accuracy, with field-selectable units.
- Zone at the sensing point: the Höntzsch ZS25 ZG5 Ex-d vane wheel probe suits Zone 0 / 20 at the sensor with its transducer in Zone 1 / 21; the TA10 thermal probe covers Category 3G and 3D (Zone 2 and 22).
- Certification: Beck flameproof transmitters use FLP-JB-IIC enclosures, CIMFR-tested for use in India.
- Output: 0 to 10 V or 4 to 20 mA across the range, so confirm which your control system expects.
Typical uses
- Applications: ID fan and dust collector airflow, extraction systems in chemical, pharma and coal plants, and gas flow in hazardous process ducts.
- Non-hazardous areas: see Air Flow & Velocity Transmitters, or for building ductwork, see HVAC airflow transmitters.
FAQ
Common questions
Are the flameproof airflow transmitters certified for use in India?
The Beck flameproof transmitters use FLP-JB-IIC enclosures, CIMFR-tested for flameproof duty. Confirm the specific model's certificate against your site's requirements before ordering, since the certification applies to the enclosure and installation together.
What velocity range does the Beck 985VA cover?
0 to 30 m/s, selectable in m/s or ft/min, with an LED display and a 0 to 10 V or 4 to 20 mA output. It's built for ID fan velocity monitoring in bag filter and dust collector systems handling combustible dust.
Which probe can be installed inside a Zone 0 duct?
The Höntzsch ZS25 ZG5 Ex-d vane wheel probe is suitable for Zone 0 and 20 at the sensing element itself, with its transducer rated for Zone 1 and 21. That split rating lets the sensor sit inside the most hazardous part of the duct.
Can I select the measurement units in the field?
Yes. The Produal DPT-Flow transmitter has field-selectable units and can measure air volume flow, velocity or differential pressure from the same device, at ±1% accuracy, with a 0 to 10 V or 4 to 20 mA output.
What's the difference between the thermal and vane wheel probes?
The Höntzsch TA10 thermal probe reads air velocity from heat transfer and suits Category 3G and 3D (Zone 2 and 22). The ZS25 ZG5 vane wheel probe reads velocity mechanically and reaches Zone 0 and 20, the highest risk classification, at the sensor.
