Level Indicator Controllers

Indicator-controllers for level loops and water treatment filter monitoring.

View Products

A level indicator controller turns a level or flow signal into a local LED display, relay outputs and a 4 to 20 mA retransmission, so operators and a PLC or DCS both see the same value. Trumen's indicator controller cum transmitter covers level loops; its rate of flow / loss of head controller reads open-channel flow and filter clogging.

Level Indicator Controllers Guide

What a level indicator controller is used for

It sits between a level or pressure sensor and the control room: a 4 or 5-digit LED shows the value locally, up to three relays can start pumps or raise alarms, and a 4 to 20 mA output retransmits the reading to a PLC or DCS. That lets an operator read a tank or filter status at the vessel while the same signal reaches the control system.

How to choose a level indicator controller

  • Job: choose the indicator controller cum transmitter for a straightforward level reading with retransmission. Choose the rate of flow / loss of head controller when you need open-channel flow over a weir or flume, or filter clogging (loss of head).
  • Display: both give a 4 or 5-digit LED display for local reading.
  • Relays: the rate of flow / loss of head controller offers up to 3 relay outputs for head or flow alarms.
  • Enclosure: the indicator controller cum transmitter is a wall- or pipe-mounted cast aluminium enclosure, IP65/66. The rate of flow / loss of head controller is aluminium pressure die-cast, IP-65, with 3 cable entries.
  • Power supply: the rate of flow / loss of head controller runs on 80 to 260 VAC, 50/60 Hz, at up to 5 W.

Pair either controller with a hydrostatic level transmitter as the input sensor.

FAQ

Common questions

What is loss of head in a filter controller?

It's the pressure or level difference across a filter bed, measured before and after it. As the filter clogs with solids, loss of head rises, which tells the operator when to backwash or replace the media. Trumen's rate of flow / loss of head controller calculates this automatically from two level or pressure inputs.

Can an indicator controller work with a weir or flume?

Yes. The Trumen rate of flow / loss of head indicator controller converts open-channel level into flow rate for all common weirs and flumes, and retransmits the result as 4 to 20 mA. It suits water and wastewater treatment plants measuring channel flow.

How many relay outputs does the controller have?

The rate of flow / loss of head controller offers up to three relay outputs, which can be set for head (level) or rate of flow alarms. That's usually enough for a high alarm, a low alarm and a pump or valve interlock on one loop.

What is the difference between the two Trumen controllers?

The indicator controller cum transmitter gives a direct level reading with a 4 to 20 mA retransmission, for simple tank, hopper or silo level loops. The rate of flow / loss of head controller adds the maths to convert open-channel level into flow rate, or two levels into loss of head across a filter.

What power supply does the controller need?

The rate of flow / loss of head controller runs on 80 to 260 VAC at 50 or 60 Hz, drawing a maximum of 5 W, so it accepts most site supplies without a separate transformer. Tell us your supply voltage and we'll confirm compatibility.
