ATEX Broken Bag Detector PM-1

Detect torn filter bags in hazardous dust zones with the Auburn PM-1, approved for ATEX areas.

View Products

An ATEX broken bag detector brings DynaCHARGE™ leak detection to dust collectors handling combustible dust, so a torn bag is caught before it becomes an emission or a hazard. The Auburn PM-1 for hazardous areas monitors the clean-air duct continuously and comes as the PM 1-A for essential alarms or the PM 1-T for proactive bag leak detection.

ATEX Broken Bag Detector PM-1 Guide

How the ATEX broken bag detector works

The PM-1 probe sits in the clean-air duct downstream of the filter and uses DynaCHARGE™ charge-induction sensing to measure the electrical charge carried by any dust particles passing it. A rising signal means dust is getting through the filter media, which is the earliest sign of a torn, worn or loose bag, well before it would show up in a stack emission reading.

Specifying the right unit

  • Alarm vs proactive detection: the PM 1-A gives essential leak alarms; the PM 1-T is for proactive bag leak detection with a trending signal, letting maintenance schedule a repair before an alarm trips.
  • Zone classification: tell us the zone at the sensor location so we can confirm the certified version.
  • Duct and process conditions: share the duct size, the gas temperature and the type of dust, since these affect probe placement and material selection.
  • Typical applications: coal mill bag filters in cement and power plants, sugar, flour and starch dust collectors, and pharmaceutical or chemical powder handling.

For flow or no-flow monitoring in a conveying line rather than a filter, see ATEX solid flow monitoring device. For an overview of hazardous-area leak detection, see ATEX Bag Filter Leak Detection.

FAQ

Common questions

What does the ATEX PM-1 detect?

A rise in dust concentration in the clean-air duct after a filter, using DynaCHARGE™ charge-induction sensing. That rise is the first sign of a torn, worn or loose filter bag, letting maintenance act before dust escapes further downstream or shows up in an emission reading.

Can the ATEX broken bag detector be installed on a coal mill bag filter?

Yes, coal mill filters are a typical application, since coal dust is combustible and the surrounding area is often classified. Share the zone classification and duct details and we'll confirm the certification and PM-1 model for your installation.

What details do you need for an ATEX broken bag detector quote?

The zone classification, duct diameter, gas temperature, dust type, and your choice of alarm outputs only (PM 1-A) or a continuous, trending signal as well (PM 1-T). With those details we can confirm the certified version for your site.

What's the difference between the PM 1-A and the PM 1-T?

The PM 1-A gives essential alarm outputs when dust rises past a set threshold. The PM 1-T adds a continuous, trending signal, so maintenance can see dust levels building gradually and plan a bag repair before an alarm point is reached.
