ATEX Pendulum Level Switch

Detect high level and material flow of bulk solids in hazardous dust zones with the Filsa MS-1 ATEX tilt switch.

View Products

An ATEX pendulum level switch hangs inside a silo and tilts when material reaches it, giving a full or empty indication in hazardous dust zones. The Filsa MS-1 ATEX handles grain up to 100 mm, certified for dust and gas atmospheres. For non-hazardous areas, see Pendulum Level Switch.

ATEX Pendulum Level Switch Guide

How an ATEX pendulum level switch works

A weighted paddle or rod hangs freely from the switch body into the vessel. As material rises and pushes against it, the pendulum tilts away from vertical, and that movement trips a switch contact. When the material level drops away again, the pendulum swings back and the contact resets, giving a straightforward mechanical way to catch a high or low point with no seals or diaphragms to wear.

How to choose an ATEX pendulum level switch

  • Grain size: the MS-1 ATEX handles bulk goods with grain sizes up to 100 mm, covering most granular and grainy materials as well as fine powders.
  • Certification: it's rated II 1/2D Ex ta/tb IIIC T80 °C Da/Db for dust and 2G Ex ib IIB T6 Gb for gas, so confirm which hazard, or both, applies at your site.
  • Pressure and protection: maximum pressure +0.5 bar, IP66 enclosure, suited to grain, flour, feed, coal, biomass and chemical powder silos.
  • Function: use it for full-level alarms in filling silos, or as an empty indicator, since it works both ways.

For hybrid dust and gas atmospheres at a fixed point rather than full/empty, see ATEX membrane level switch.

FAQ

Common questions

Which zones is the MS-1 ATEX certified for?

Dust zones, rated II 1/2D Ex ta/tb IIIC T80 °C Da/Db, and gas zones, rated 2G Ex ib IIB T6 Gb. That combination lets one switch cover both combustible dust and flammable gas hazards, provided the marking matches your specific site conditions.

What grain size can the ATEX pendulum switch handle?

Up to 100 mm, which covers most granulated and grainy bulk goods as well as fine powders. The pendulum's tilting action works the same way regardless of particle size, as long as the material can physically push the paddle.

Can it be used as an empty indicator as well as a full indicator?

Yes. The MS-1 ATEX works as either a full or an empty indicator, depending on where it's mounted in the silo or vessel. Many installations use two switches, one for high level and one for low level.

What pressure and protection rating does it carry?

Maximum pressure +0.5 bar, with IP66 ingress protection, suiting typical silo and bunker installations for grain, flour, feed, coal, biomass and chemical powders where dust and moisture ingress both need to be kept out.
