Manual Retractable Sensor Housings

Manually retract pH and analysis sensors for service without stopping the process.

View Products

A manual retractable housing lets you pull a pH, conductivity or optical sensor out of a live process into a cleaning chamber by hand, clean or calibrate it, and put it back, without stopping production or draining the line. Exner's EXtract 810M to 850M cover stainless steel, Alloy and plastic construction up to 16 bar and 140 °C.

Manual Retractable Sensor Housings Guide

What a manual retractable housing is used for

A manual retractable housing is built for processes that can't be stopped but only need occasional sensor service, such as a weekly calibration. You withdraw the sensor by hand into an isolated chamber, clean or calibrate it there, then return it to the process, all without draining the line or shutting the plant down.

How to choose a manual retractable housing

  • Standard duty: the EXtract 810M and 811M are stainless steel 316L or Alloy, up to 16 bar and 140 °C. The 811M extends immersion to 207 mm for deeper vessels.
  • Weld-in socket: the 815M fits a DN25 weld-in socket directly.
  • Lower pressure, plastic media: the 820M and 821M are PP, PVDF or PEEK, up to 10 bar and 140 °C, with the 821M reaching 194 mm immersion.
  • Dirty or scaling media: the 825M adds an integrated PTFE scraper to keep the sensor clean as it's withdrawn.
  • Hygienic process: the 830M has EHEDG / 3-A approved connections, up to 16 bar.
  • Long immersion or high safety: the 840M reaches up to 700 mm immersion with a ball valve and a safety lock against unlocking under pressure.
  • Simple, low-pressure duty: the 850M is a basic 120 mm sensor housing up to 6 bar.

FAQ

Common questions

How does a manual retractable housing work?

You withdraw the sensor by hand from the process into a built-in cleaning chamber, isolated by a valve, so the medium stays contained. There you clean or calibrate the sensor, then push it back into the process. No production stoppage or line draining is needed.

Can I retract the sensor under process pressure?

Yes, within each model's rated pressure. The EXtract 810M and 811M work up to 16 bar, and the 840M adds a safety lock that stops the housing being opened if the process pressure is still too high to do so safely.

Which manual retractable housing suits food or dairy processing?

The EXtract 830M, with EHEDG / 3-A approved hygienic connections and stainless steel construction, is built for cleanable mounting in food and beverage lines up to 16 bar.

Which model handles dirty or scaling media?

The EXtract 825M, which adds an integrated PTFE scraper that wipes the sensor as it's withdrawn, keeping fouling media from building up on the tip between services.

How deep can a manual retractable housing reach?

It depends on the model: the standard EXtract 810M reaches 107 mm, the 811M extends to 207 mm, and the 840M, with its ball valve and safety lock, reaches up to 700 mm for deeper tanks or channels.

Is a plastic manual retractable housing available?

Yes. The EXtract 820M and 821M are PP, PVDF or PEEK, rated up to 10 bar and 140 °C, for media that would corrode stainless steel. The 825M plastic version adds a PTFE scraper for rougher media.
