pH & Analysis Sensor Housings
Static, immersion and retractable housings for pH and analysis sensors from Exner.
A sensor housing mounts a pH, conductivity or optical sensor in the process and protects it while giving access for cleaning and calibration. Exner's range covers static housings for pipes and tanks, immersion fittings for open basins, and manual or pneumatic retractable housings that let you service the sensor without stopping the process.

Selection guide
pH & Analysis Sensor Housings Guide
Static, immersion or retractable sensor housing?
Choose by how the process runs.
- Static probe housing: if you can stop the line to clean or calibrate the sensor, a static probe housing is the simplest and lowest-cost option. It mounts a 12 mm sensor permanently in a pipe or tank, in a threaded, TriClamp or hygienic connection, up to 10 bar and 140 °C.
- Immersion fitting: if the sensor sits in an open tank, basin or channel rather than a pipe, an immersion fitting holds it at depth instead and cleans it in place with an integrated orbital system.
Manual or pneumatic retraction?
- Manual retractable housing: if the process can't stop but the sensor only needs occasional service, a manual retractable housing lets you pull the sensor into a cleaning chamber by hand, clean or calibrate it, and return it, without draining the line.
- Pneumatic retractable housing: if cleaning and calibration must run on a schedule, or the process is continuous and unattended, a pneumatic retractable housing automates the whole cycle when paired with an EXmatic control unit.
Materials and approvals
- Material: housings come in stainless steel 316L, Alloy C22 or plastics such as PVDF and PP, so match the material to your medium and its pressure and temperature.
- Approvals: many models are usable in ATEX areas, and hygienic versions carry EHEDG or 3-A approved connections for food, beverage and pharma lines where crevice-free, cleanable mounting matters as much as the pressure rating.
Tell us the sensor type, process connection, pressure and temperature, and how often it needs cleaning or calibration, and we'll confirm the right Exner housing for your process.
FAQ
Common questions
What is a retractable sensor housing?
It's a fitting that lets you withdraw a pH, conductivity or optical sensor from a live process into a cleaning chamber, service it, and return it without stopping production or draining the line. Exner's EXtract range comes in manual and pneumatic versions, in stainless steel, Alloy C22 or plastic, up to 16 bar and 140 °C.
Static or retractable: which sensor housing do I need?
Choose static if you can stop the process to service the sensor: it's the simplest and cheapest mounting, in a pipe or tank up to 10 bar and 140 °C. Choose retractable, manual or pneumatic, if the process must keep running, so the sensor is pulled into a cleaning chamber, serviced and returned while production continues.
Which sensor lengths fit Exner housings?
Static and immersion housings take a standard 12 mm sensor of 120 mm length. Retractable housings accept longer sensors, from 120 mm on the simplest manual model up to 325 mm on the pneumatic range, so check the housing's spec before ordering a replacement sensor.
Are Exner sensor housings suitable for hazardous areas?
Yes. Most Exner housings, including the manual and pneumatic retractable ranges, are usable in ATEX areas. For a fully ATEX-rated retractable holder with the drive and control unit included, see our ATEX retractable sensor holder page and confirm the zone with us.
Do hygienic sensor housings meet dairy and food design standards?
Yes. The EXstatic 312 and 315 static housings and the EXtract 830 and 830M retractable housings have EHEDG or 3-A approved hygienic connections, alongside 316L stainless construction, for beverage, dairy and pharma lines that need cleanable, crevice-free mounting.
Can a sensor housing be supplied in plastic instead of stainless steel?
Yes. Several models come in PP, PVDF or PEEK for corrosive media where stainless steel would corrode: the EXstatic 340 static housing, the EXdip 920 immersion fitting, and the EXtract 820, 821 and 825 retractable housings in both manual and pneumatic versions.
