Wireless Sensors & Transmitters

Wireless sensors and transmitters for buildings and plants where cabling is costly or impractical.

View Products

A wireless temperature sensor avoids the cable runs, trunking and downtime a wired installation needs, which matters where cabling is costly. The Produal Proxima® MESH system on this page has three parts: battery or 24 V powered transmitters, an input module for external sensors, and a base station outputting over Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP or analogue.

Wireless Sensors & Transmitters Guide

How the Proxima wireless system works

Each transmitter measures indoor temperature and sends the reading over the wireless mesh network to a base station, instead of running a signal cable back to the panel. The WBU base station collects readings from every transmitter and input module on the network and passes them on via Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP or six analogue outputs, so it drops into an existing building management or control system as if it were a wired point.

How to choose a wireless sensor and transmitter

  • Power source: the WTR runs on batteries, for locations with no power nearby. The WTR24 uses a 24 V supply where power is already available, avoiding battery changes.
  • External inputs: the WTR-IM input module reads three external inputs and also measures temperature and humidity itself, useful for bringing existing sensors onto the wireless network.
  • Base station output: the WBU passes readings on via Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP or six analogue outputs, so match the option to what your controller or PLC already accepts.
  • Coverage: the WA-AS1 antenna extension improves signal when the base station has to sit inside a steel cabinet, which otherwise blocks the wireless signal.
  • When to choose wireless: existing buildings, finished interiors, or plants where a cable run would mean significant downtime or cost, are the cases where this system earns its keep over a wired sensor.

For a wired equivalent with a 4 to 20 mA loop, see temperature transmitters. For the same Proxima system built for HVAC, see HVAC wireless transmitters.

FAQ

Common questions

When does a wireless temperature sensor make more sense than a wired one?

Mainly in existing buildings, finished interiors or plants where running a new cable means trunking, cutting into finishes, or downtime you can't easily schedule. The Produal Proxima system avoids the cable run entirely, trading it for a battery or a local 24 V supply and a wireless link to the base station.

What's the difference between the WTR and WTR24 wireless transmitters?

The WTR runs on batteries, so it suits locations with no power nearby. The WTR24 uses a 24 V supply where power is already available, which avoids battery changes over the life of the installation. Both measure indoor temperature and send readings over the same wireless mesh network.

How does the wireless base station connect to a PLC or BMS?

The WBU base station collects readings from every transmitter and input module on the wireless network, then outputs them via Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP or six analogue outputs. Choose whichever output matches your existing controller, so the wireless network appears to it like any other wired input.

Can the wireless system read sensors it doesn't come with?

Yes. The WTR-IM input module reads three external inputs of your choosing, in addition to measuring temperature and humidity itself, and sends all of it over the wireless network to the base station. That lets you bring an existing sensor onto the Proxima network instead of replacing it.

Does a steel cabinet affect the wireless base station's range?

Yes, a steel enclosure can block or weaken the wireless signal. The WA-AS1 external antenna extension is designed for exactly this case, improving coverage when the base station has to be installed inside a steel cabinet rather than mounted in the open.
