ATEX Boot Level Switch

Detect material build-up in bucket elevator boots in ATEX dust zones with the Filsa AD ATEX boot level switch.

View Products

An ATEX boot level switch detects minimum or medium level of bulk solids in silos and vessels in dust zones classified for explosive atmospheres. The Filsa AD ATEX is a reinforced membrane switch with no moving parts inside the vessel, rated for bulk densities of 0.3 to 2.5 t/m³. For non-ATEX applications, see Boot Level Switch.

ATEX Boot Level Switch Guide

How an ATEX boot level switch works

The reinforced membrane sits flush with the vessel wall. When material presses against it from inside, the membrane flexes and actuates a switch on the outside, with nothing moving inside the vessel to wear or jam. Because there's no internal mechanism, it copes well with abrasive or high-density bulk solids that would wear a lighter membrane.

How to choose an ATEX boot level switch

  • Material: the Filsa AD ATEX suits high-density or abrasive bulk materials, in densities from 0.3 to 2.5 t/m³, where the reinforced membrane resists wear.
  • Zone: confirm the dust zone classification at the mounting point. The AD ATEX carries a dust-only rating, so check whether the area also has a gas hazard before ordering.
  • Mounting position: it's fitted in the silo or vessel wall at the level to be detected, typically low down for minimum level.
  • Certification: tell us the zone, the material and its bulk density, and we'll confirm the version and certification for your site.

For dust and gas mixed atmospheres, see ATEX membrane level switch. For full and empty indication, see ATEX pendulum level switch.

FAQ

Common questions

ATEX boot level switch vs ATEX membrane level switch: what's the difference?

The ATEX boot level switch (Filsa AD ATEX) has a reinforced membrane and is certified for dust-only atmospheres. The ATEX membrane level switch (Filsa CD ATEX) is certified for dust, gas and hybrid (dust and gas together) atmospheres. Choose the boot switch for dust-only zones with dense or abrasive material, and the CD ATEX where gas or vapour is also present.

Which bulk densities can the Filsa AD ATEX handle?

It's rated for bulk densities from 0.3 to 2.5 t/m³, covering most powders, granules and grains used in silo and vessel storage. Because it has no moving parts inside the vessel, it also suits abrasive materials that would wear a lighter switch faster.

Where is the switch mounted?

In the wall of the silo or vessel at the level you want to detect, usually low down for minimum level. The membrane sits flush with the inside wall so material presses against it directly as the level rises past the mounting point.

What information do you need to confirm a version?

The dust zone classification at the mounting point, the material being stored, and its bulk density. With those details we can confirm the correct AD ATEX version and its certification for your installation.
