HVAC Airflow Probes Overview
Balancing an HVAC system means getting the right air volume to each zone. Variable air volume systems need continuous airflow readings, and energy audits need to know how much air the fans actually move. Airflow probes in the ducts provide that measurement.
Why an averaging probe
Airflow in HVAC ducts is uneven, especially after bends, dampers and fittings. The Produal FloXact™ samples total and static pressure at multiple points across the duct for a representative average, and amplifies the differential pressure 2.5 times to measure down to 1.0 m/s.
Typical HVAC uses
- Supply and extract air volume at the AHU
- Outdoor air measurement for minimum fresh air control
- Tracking supply and extract airflow in labs and clean rooms

Common questions
Can I measure fresh air volume with it?
Yes. A FloXact™ in the outdoor air duct gives the air volume, which the BMS can use to control minimum fresh air.
How do I get the reading into the BMS?
Connect the probe to a differential pressure or flow transmitter, such as the Produal DPT-Flow, which sends the air volume to the BMS.
Does it work at low air speeds?
Yes, down to 1.0 m/s (200 fpm), because it amplifies the differential pressure 2.5 times.
