HVAC Passive Temperature Sensors Overview
Passive sensors have no electronics: they're simply a temperature-dependent resistor, such as a Pt1000, wired straight to a controller's input. They're low-cost, need no power supply and are very reliable.
Produal passive sensors
Most use a Pt1000 element to EN 60751 class B, with typical accuracy of ±0.3 °C at 0 °C.
- Room: TEHR and RS-PT1000
- Duct: TEK, -50 to 70 °C
- Outdoor: TEU, -50 to 50 °C
- Cable: TEKY4, IP67
- Water: immersion, strap-on and frost guard sensors
Other elements, such as T1 (TEP), are available for controllers that need them.
Passive or transmitter?
Choose passive when the controller has a resistance input for the same element and the cable is short. Choose a transmitter for long cables or 4 to 20 mA / 0 to 10 V inputs.

Common questions
What is a Pt1000?
A platinum resistance element with 1000 Ω at 0 °C. Its higher resistance, compared with a Pt100, reduces the effect of cable resistance.
Do passive sensors need power?
No. The controller reads the resistance directly.
What accuracy can I expect?
Typically ±0.3 °C at 0 °C for Produal Pt1000 sensors.
