About this industry

Water & Waste Water Overview

Water and waste water plants run all day, every day, and have to meet discharge and drinking water limits on every sample. Operators need reliable readings of water quality, tank levels, pressures and the health of pumps and blowers. We supply measurement, analysis and control products for each stage, from raw water intake to treated water storage and from the inlet works of a sewage treatment plant to the final outfall.

Water quality analysis

Water quality decides every dosing and treatment step. pH and ORP electrodes from Kuntze and Chemitec track acidity and redox in raw water, neutralisation tanks and treated water. Conductivity cells measure dissolved solids, and Chemitec single, dual and multi-channel analysers show and transmit several parameters from one panel.

Clarification and filtration

Clarifiers and filters are judged by how clear the water comes out. Chemitec turbidity sensors cover high-turbidity raw water and settled water, and low-turbidity filter outlets. For drinking water and RO feed, the Exner EXpure 191 measures down to 0–10 NTU with near-infrared light.

Disinfection

Chlorine dose has to be high enough to disinfect and low enough to meet limits. A free chlorine analyser from Chemitec gives a continuous reading for dosing control at the contact tank and in the distribution network.

Aeration and biological treatment

In activated sludge plants, the aeration blowers use most of the power. An optical dissolved oxygen sensor from Chemitec lets the blowers run only as hard as the process needs, and a Beck low pressure transmitter watches blower discharge pressure. At the inlet and outlet, a UV BOD/COD sensor tracks organic load without lab delays.

Tanks, sumps and channels

Hydrostatic and water level transmitters from Trumen and Beck measure wet wells, reservoirs and storage tanks, and ultrasonic and capacitance level transmitters suit open channels and chemical tanks. Vibrating fork, conductivity and capacitance level switches give high and low alarms and dry-run protection for pumps.

Pumps, pipelines and filters

Pressure transmitters from Trumen and adjustable pressure switches from Beck protect pump discharge lines and dosing skids. A Beck differential pressure transmitter for liquids shows when a sand, multimedia or cartridge filter needs backwashing. RTD probes with head-mount temperature transmitters measure water and motor temperatures.

Rotating equipment and control

Pumps, blowers and mixers wear out bearings and lose balance over time. Vibration sensors from Hauber give early warning before a breakdown. For skid and pump station control, the Pixsys EPL200 PLC ties these instruments together.

We supply these brands to municipal and industrial water projects across India, South Asia, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Africa, and help with product selection and after-sales support.

FAQ

Common questions

Which parameters should a sewage treatment plant monitor online?

pH and dissolved oxygen in the aeration tank, turbidity or suspended solids at the clarifier outlet, and BOD/COD at the inlet and outlet are the common ones. Chlorine is added where treated water is disinfected or reused. We can suggest a sensor for each sampling point.

How does a dissolved oxygen sensor save energy?

Aeration blowers are often the largest power load in a sewage plant. With a continuous DO reading, the blowers are controlled to hold the oxygen level the bacteria need, instead of running at full speed all the time.

Which turbidity sensor suits drinking water?

Filtered and drinking water usually reads below 1 NTU, so a low or ultra-low range sensor is needed. Raw and settled water need a higher range. Tell us the range and installation and we will recommend a model.

Which level transmitter works in a sewage wet well?

A submersible hydrostatic level transmitter is the usual choice, since it is not affected by foam or the shape of the well. An ultrasonic transmitter mounted above the water works where nothing should touch the liquid.

Can these instruments connect to our SCADA or PLC?

Yes. Most transmitters and analysers give a 4–20 mA output, many support Modbus, and the multi-channel analysers bring several sensors into one signal panel.
